whats the point of making a movie about godzilla and then censoring godzilla!!!

For people who want to SEE godzilla, it's self defeating.

For artists who don't want to be hassled by legal problems courtesy of selectively applied law enforcement … well ... it's rather different, you see.

    @'bigtrick':

i realy think its possible for umemaro to release his work here under a difrent publishers name lets say someone like miro here (hint hint) then they canot sue him in a court of law because he could legaly empower miro to publish his work or modified versions of his work

Whether YOU think such an arrangement is a sufficiently "legal dodge" to get around the Censorship Police has remarkably little congruency with Reality™. You're perfectly entitled to your opinion of course, but just because you "believe" something ought to be simple and easy doesn't make it (necessarily) so.

    @'bigtrick':

its not hard if theres a will there is a way

See if you can spot the place where things go wrong in the following thought problem.

Physicist: "Assume a spherical chicken of uniform density-"

Engineer: "HOLD IT right there! A what?!?"

The whole censorship issue is just funny. Absolutely makes no sense yeah… There are so many movies where all kinds of crazy shit happens, slime everywhere, tentacles penetrating, big monster shit happening, rape themes and blood, and gore etc flying over the room but in all of that, they cant show a simple pussy, which would be the least offending in that whole complexion :D

But well, different culture, different people :)

    Those crazy Japanese… XD
I love Japanese stuff. I love my ecchi anime, I love (some) hentai, I love Japanese games, one day I'll even visit. But yeah, their brand of censorship is pretty bizarre. I love the hentai with tiny little black strips right on the cock head or very carefully placed on the vagina lips.

"What's in the box?! Come onnnnnn.... what's in the box!?"

    Lol

  • Thank you guys for your clear explanation of this case Seems its not so easy afterall.

  • The problem with Japan's censorship laws is that they make no sense (no, really, they don't) and they're applied … selectively ... with the net effect being that they make even less sense (common or otherwise). The problem is that the penalties for running afoul of the censorship laws are ... Not Good™ ... especially given that the Japanese legal system is, by and large, something that EVERYONE in the country tries to avoid as much as possible (under the heading of "the cure is worse than the disease" in most cases).

Pretty much the only way for Umemaro to be able to release uncensored works would be for him to emigrate out of Japan and live in a foreign country, which … surprise, surprise ... not all that many Japanese people want to do (go figure).

Bottom line here is that if the Censorship Police want to harass anyone, they pretty much can, and the only "real" defense against them is Self Censorship ... which is why so much of Japanese porn (2D, 3D, live or computer generated) involves the censorship that everyone objects to. It's also why the Censorship Police can get mighty snooty about re-importation into Japan of formerly censored materials ... like, Bible Black. When the Bible Black videos were released in the US on DVD, they were uncensored ... and lo and behold, there quickly became something of a re-importation "rush" to get copies of the uncensored US version available in Japan (three guesses as to why, and the first two don't count). It also didn't hurt that due to the dollar to yen exchange at the time, the price of the region 1 DVDs sold in the US were HALF the price of the region 2 DVDs sold in Japan. Half the price and NO CENSORSHIP? Not exactly hard to imagine which direction the market is going to jump.

Bottom line here is that this particular issue isn't just about censorship … it's also about Protectionism and Controlling The Market (share). There MIGHT be a way that you can wangle your way around the issues, but it's safer to assume you probably won't be able to (because if you could, there'd already be something of a "land rush" going on so that everyone else could do the same thing).

yeah been looking into that, I think there's a decent chance we'll be able to get Umemaro in store eventually, however uncensored is a whole different story, if I recall correctly Umemaro's already had a run in with the law about his censoring being too light, considering that and for someone living in the country I could understand them being reluctant… but never say never
