  • @'jbtrimar':

You will definitely want to watch poser tutorials or read the manual. Many people skip the manual and I have found it to be invaluable at times.

Here are some webinars I would suggest watching. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLynyD-7entJ1YAdVSLkNtmTHj0J1Z1fPx

yeah, i really need to RTFM. i can create a desirable character but have no idea how to load them in a scene.
also need to learn dynamic hair, clothes etc.

    thanks!

  • i don't know what SSSMat is. i'm just loading what i see. the natural and naturalwet are in the same folder.

thanks for the ideas about lighting. i'll try some known premade ones. then experiment on my own.
i made some moonlight shining into a hotel room the other knight. that was a lot of fun.

    thanks everyone.

the skin texture on the right looks decent, so yes as jbtrimar said, you'll have to play with lighting, try some preset lighting setup to learn the ropes and tutorials or if you see a specific render with a light setup you like ask the artist, more of than not, they'll give you some tips

  • It is your default lights. They are there to give a pseudo lighting scheme and make it easy to move around without a heavy load. Load up some the IBLs or the HDRs and you will see a big difference.

You will also want to change your render settings. Check out these settings here http://fav.me/d4hwy25

  • I'm a beginner like you, so I probably dont know much more than you do. But it looks kinda like you loaded the SSSMat rather than the actual skin itself.

Also, have you tried shutting the program down, opening it and trying again? :)
