I like to see daz (and I assume poser) make it easier to get a hand and move it from point A to point B, without having to work out all the bend, twist and side to side settings for the forearm, upper arm and shoulder in order to get the hand to point B

try using "translate in/out" and the Ctrl key when you need to change axis. that should make it easier.
the Ctrl key comes in handy for cameras as well. but i also agree, a grab victoria4 left ankle would be nice to have.

  • daz, because of the mesh smoothing and auto apply feauter for clothes meshes :)

  • ^ that avatar is disturbing me

  • Liquid simulation…..

  • well i'm just getting into creating CG stuff. (poser pro 2014) heavily inspired by miro.

if i had to pick one, it would be functional genitalia out of the box.
they try and hide the fact people use their software for porn. and here we are.
would be nice if someone "in house" at smith micro could build something and release it underground.

    others

    • i would love to see CUDA rendering support built in, without the need for plugins.
    • rag-doll physics.
    • liquid generator with color, transparency, thickness, steaminess controls. you get the idea.

  • Yep 4.5. My computer is a few years old now though. Just a bit odd that other apps seem to have more responsive viewports. Maybe they just perform better on older hardware…

  • @'l_mirukulab':

DAZ|Studio - I think viewport performance. Sometimes it just seems slow, in ways that I don't see in Blender for example. This might not be completely fair though. I'm not comparing apples to apples here as what I've loaded in Blender is a bit lighter than what I've loaded in DS

I'm assuming you're using DS4.x. This is one of the reason, I'm still using DS3. Even with my integrated Radeon 3000 series, it's very fluid.

  • Sorry. I'm not sure what's going on there. :( DS doesn't seem to like Ctrl as a modifier key (on my system at least). Ctrl-Shift-LMB always ends up as Shift-LMB, but it seems to take effect without restarting the app or anything.

Like matthacker mentioned you can customize this. I set my controls for Maya style navigation. Actually I don't know if its really Maya style as I've never used Maya, but its I think its the same as in some others like Cinema4D and Unity and I set it to this in Blender. Go to Window -> Workspace -> Customize… and check out the Viewport Shortcuts at the bottom.

    I have mine set to:
    Orbit: Alt+LMB
    Pan: Alt+MMB
    Zoom (Dolly): RMB

I don't remember what the defaults are, but this has proved invaluable for me.

    HOORAY! Thanks!
Err… except that it's not working for some reason. I keep double-clicking the blank to enter a new shortcut, then putting in, say, Ctrl+LMB for Orbit, clicking Apply and/or Accept, and nothing changes. If I go back to the Customize window, it's back to Ctrl-Shift-LMB or whatever it was originally, as if I'd cancelled out of it. :-(

  • @'Hollow:

Kinda wish viewport control in Daz was more like it is in Illusion Software's old Digitown scene editor. Or any of their programs that let you move the camera around, really. Holding down shift or ctrl to switch between pan, zoom, and rotate was so much better than having to go up to the little icon every time. (Or have I simply not used it enough to learn a better way?)

Poser - The one thing I want to see is an overal UX update. I just don't like the UI. In general. Widgets, cursors, library management… I admit I just picked up Poser 9 last week. I had 5 or 6 (can't remember) a while back, but I was never a fan of the UI. Some things are definitely better. Like dockable windows, I don't remember them being there, but could be wrong.

Blender - I'm actually really loving Blender so far. Having some good video tutorials helps and I'm learning a lot from cgcookie.com.

  • Came up with another one. Would like to paint textures directly on the model in Poser and add displacement and bump maps in real time.

  • I would like to add a modeling tool to Poser. With the advent of Reality for Poser my old wish, new render engine, has been granted :D

  • @'Sol':

Another thing that would be nice in Daz would be a custom toolbar, maybe there already is one, never managed to set one up though.

You can customize DS UI (menu, toolbar and shortcut keys) via the 'Customize' menu. If you don't know where to look, look at step 1 on this page: http://wiki.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/user_interface/tutorials/switching_layouts/start

Hmm, why just one thing? I mean, there's a few thing I would like. Here's a few things that do exist now but can be improved.
    1. IK that doesn't cause jitter problems and work the way they should.
    2. Level of Detail that works (like in DS3).
    3. Better alpha/transparent texture support. The ability to preview bump, normal and displacement would be very useful. Also, previewing just about any map used in shader slots and actually see the changes in the viewport.
    4. A texture/shader baking utility that works. One that can do normal maps via projection will be awesome.

  • From what I've seen, Posers VP controls are a mess, I'd say the same about Daz but I've gotten used to it.I mostly work in Maya (when not doing 3DX) and the VPCs are spot on there, wish more 3D programs could learn from them ;)

  • Poser : Better viewport controls
DAZ Studio : Better Precision Posing controls for Active Pose and better looking Axis bands

For both : Revert genesis feet back to Gen4 feet, or at least fix the goddamn heel.
