  • I know there's mixing and matching combinations of preexisting content, but does anyone port other content? For example, if a game or VR program had figures from autodesk, would you use parts (provided they're suitable at least in part if not in whole) knowing there's workable compatability? Is anyone here a modder? Just curious.

    Back to the subject of character creation. I kinda figure now, I'm going to have some characters that resemble certain well known people or characters to some extent but are not the same person (avoiding legal issues). Maybe some references and parody to the people they resemble.

    Then you have content for directly building popular characters available in the market.

    It's probably just my personal taste. If you don't like the canonical story of certain characters or the story just doesn't accommodate what you want to do, but you want the characters, I suppose there's two ways of going about making porn of them.

    1. Fanon, personal canon (I mean, people do it all the time for non-porn, so…yeah)
    2. Blank slate with little to no relevant context, just porn

    Obviously, in this category it has to be free or different enough the lawyers of original copyright holders can't prosecute you on a technicality or anything else that violates the law (or their clients' rights).

    I'm with Hibbli and what Gator eluded to...Let your image/comic/series SHOW me the characters personality, frame of mind, emotion, the situation etc...
    I don't care if you used the same character that someone else has; can you bring the character and portrayed emotions to life in your image and engage me with your story?



  • Disabling limits:
    Try right-clicking on the figure part? Maybe click the gear icon on the Transform/Rotate/Bend slider panels?

    As for hair, I was working on a scene a while back where a character was in the water with her hair pulled up in a bun using one hair (forget which one offhand) but when she walks up onto the beach, she has the Summer Hair, indicating she's let her hair down. Since they were similarly styled to begin with, and the textures were similar, it's an easy transition.

    As well, you can mix and match hair - put two or more hair items on a given figure and hide portions of either one, or mix a short fluffy hairstyle (Fashion Hair, Night Fever, or Toulouse) with a long hair like the Sporty Braid. It might seem unrealistic to some degree, but playing around with morphs or even the dreaded postwork could help.

    As for using ready-made characters, what I've been doing is starting with the base figure and applying Character Body morphs in percentages: 33% of this one's body, 33% of that one's body, 33% of a third one, then do the same with the head, but pick different characters from the bodies I've used. You can also do 25% using 4 different figures, or 50% from 2, or really any combination, including 100% of one with an extra 25-30% of another, though some will result in extreme shapes, so you're better off playing around and experimenting.

    Even then I'll go in and change a couple of parameters - maybe face depth, glute size, etc. It really expands your available library that way, and you're not "stuck" with using just the character packs as they come.

    I still see nothing wrong with using the character presets, though. I don't see it as a lack of creativity, unless you're making character presets for distribution. I look for creativity in the story and presentation more than the figure itself. I know I'm looking at V4 or Gen2 or Gen3 or Aiko or Girl, so the "originality" factor in that regard for me is already blown to shit. I look at how these figures are used more than how familiar they appear. If I see the default V4 face, though, I might just point it out simply because she's such a dog, but even then, it's more about context and application.

    Generally I mix characters or use a completely different texture set with a character and shaping usually gets some tweaks.

    In my forthcoming game with Antoine however, there are some out of the box characters, but that is to repeat some of what has been mentioned before, the gen 7 characters are stunning and look amazing in stock config.

    Agreed on the gen 7 characters. Daz is really knocking it outta the park with them. I have Eva, promos of her she's very pretty but I haven't gotten around to any renders with her yet. I guess I really should check her out, there's just so many other good ones I've been playing with.

Some stuff could use fishnet treatment. Or maybe some vivid animal pattern would fit better? How's about leather with matte or perhaps gloss and polyester/plastic?

    That's what I was getting at - You could certainly do that to transform the outfit to something else. But if you're going for the hot secretary look, you wouldn't have her in something transparent or the vivid animal pattern. It doesn't fit the theme.



  • To reply at the original tilte, personnally i buy characters then custom them between tons of products i have & playing with morph dials.
    I don't go from scratch, don't have the skill for.

    @Nuke: Personally I don't think it's so much lazy as maybe unoriginal/lacking creativity. However, the majority of us (best I can tell) aren't making characters completely from scratch. Darthhell made his twi'lek head morphs himself and can't seem to transfer them from V4 to G2F using Poser–and doesn't want to use Daz because he has even more issue than I about their monopolizing. Then again, he does most of his own work which includes postwork, and it all turns out nicely so if he can continue to make great looking stuff with what he knows, there isn't much incentive to change it now. Though he has used G2F to play around with in poser and likes how much nicer to work with than V4. If I can learn enough to help him, I'll give it my best shot. Or if anyone here currently with more experience with morph transfer would care to try, I'm sure he'd appreciate it.

    Back to the subject on hand...

    As I said, it may be unoriginal the less thought you put into selecting content and making a backstory, the more unoriginal it gets. However, looking down on someone for using pre-made content just...it's unfair.
    --If you can fabricate your own, well DUH, you're pretty much out of our league anyways so that's just being a dick holding it over us...
    --If you use characters just like everyone else but criticize others for doing it, that's pot calling the kettle black.

    I love Summer Hair, and Luminous Summer colors for it because I always wanted a rebel rock chick...then I started putting glasses on her and made her look a little more curvy... Aaaaand then I saw Lana again and realized/forgotten Supro used the same hair and apparently likes girls with some ass just like me, and that my proto character looks like she's Lana with a different hair color and a gothic metal theme... now it's back to the drawing board. I don't want to copy him, even if it was unintentional...

    I do typically spend quite a bit of time on a new character. Morphs & tweaking skin shaders. Yeah it's not Zbrush, but I did pick up a lot of morphs. Like Nuke, most of them the bodies are less than ideal for me. I also try to be aware to not have them all the same. To me it seems atypical of 3DX is that I personally don't go for the monstrous boobs, I prefer balance. For the pinup type renders less monstrous boobs is more common. If she's a thin little hottie, then somewhere around a D cup looks big on her. If she has a larger frame, then she might have DD or DDD. I'm not knocking anyone that uses monstrous boobs, it's just not my preference. Hopefully that wouldn't hurt my work's appeal.

    I don't see much storytelling from what I've seen, that's probably due to the amount of work put into outfits and scenes. Seems most of it (although I admit I haven't seen that much) is a few clothed shots then wham-bam. But established artists have established characters, so I may not be seeing the whole picture. I've thought about more story, but kinda cringe at the amount of work for it wondering if people even care. Like there doesn't seem to be many porn movies, the realized most of us are hitting the FF button to get to the sucking & fucking. :)
