    @thehawkman,

Its even worse than that - imagine a pz3 for each frame of animation is what happens with the IndigoRT. I filled up 1 TB with a 120 second animation…

    Is the quality good?

  • @'gazukull':

Is that plug available now? That looks like it could mega help with some of the web commission work I do.

EDIT: I see the situation now - ok thanks!

It's in development. But it seems to need a hefty machine. 25 minutes for a simulation on a dual Xeon with 32 threads. Maybe the final version will be better optimized.

Soo… did you make a backup of it? :D I understood what you meant, hence why I said "kinda" like Poser. Also, see this:

    It's not realtime, though.

  • lol!

But I got to say, the character creator looks interesting at least. Wonder how well the figures behave in a game engine in terms of how the bending etc will look. I just cannot see this as looking great if they do not use a ton of extra bones for keeping shape…

  • @'gazukull':

Also it uses insane amounts of HD space by creating a separate scene file for each frame. WHAT?

Kind of like Poser then? Add just 2 damn V4 characters and watch your pz3 file balloon to 300-400 MB. Since that doesn't happen with props, the obvious conclusion is that it sucks at storing morph data. Why the hell it doesn't Wonder how big Erogenesis' scene for the Disco dragon got with the number of characters he had in there. But of course Poser is God, and since God can do no wrong, the developers are just going to pretend it's not a problem. Thank Bill Gates for NTFS compression, or else I'd fill the hard drive.

  • thanks for all the info gazukull. sounds like they have a long way to go. scene for each frame? jeez

as for Poser library, ouside :s Genesis 3 lot's of daz figures work in poser.

  • I got iClone 6 about 3 months ago or so and dumped a solid two weeks into learning it. In the end, I could not make it do what I wanted and returned it.

    My observations:

    The good

    1. It does everything it says it can animating is easy intuitive.
    2. Getting characters to talk to wav or mp3 is very easy AND very neat, I looked into getting a voice actress for a few characters.
    3. The on the fly physX for hair / clothes work pretty darn well.

    The bad

    1. Your choices of rendering engines are pretty much shit. The default one does not cut the mustard and Indigo RT at best uses 1 GPU. Also it uses insane amounts of HD space by creating a separate scene file for each frame. WHAT? Speed of render with indigo RT is out of the question and the quality of the default engine = poop.
    2. No Zbrush integration, coming soon, but not yet.

I was really sad that it was not going to meet my needs. I think it is a great piece of software AND it probably works great for a lot of people, just not there yet for what I needed it to.

I would relook at it if they connected to something like Octane or even Iray, if the purpose of the software is animation, a good FAST render engine should be available.

You can export the animations to other softwares - but you pay a premium on the animation blocks for that. SAD PANTS.

I hope in the future it can be in my pipeline.

EDIT: I have no experience using SFM at all, but if you could easily get Daz characters into with rigged with morphs, that would be a game changer I think.

    @'PervisMaximus':

not quite there yet. the men & women have no dicks. :P

seriously though, it looks like it has a lot of nice tools/features. you can also import Genesis/Genesis2 characters.
    wondering how exporting/rendering would be.

Ok that make Daz3d safe for now. But what about poser? It has no character library at least not as extentise as Daz3d.

    @'thehawkman':

I've seen good animations made with it. And that interface looks like a DAZ and Poser hybrid.

Do you think that a good thing?

Well, I am more biased towards Poser's interface (everything is readily available - camera switcher on the left, light controls on the left, parameters on the right, rooms at the top) but I do feel that the parameter sliders in DAZ are more ergonomic. And also, it is much easier to load content in DAZ, with the way it loads the sublevels, then it is in Poser. So, at first glance yes, it would be a good thing (to me at least). Other than that, in DAZ that interface with all the icons at the top, that have no labels, looks like something I would design myself and that's not a compliment.
