  • First time Im checking this thread out. I like it a lot. Crow-Man, did you write up the "How-To" in the first post? Very well-written and informative

  • @'SinCyprine':

things have prolly changed with daz4.9
previous daz version (4.8 here) would instal by default in (windows here) My Documents\My DAZ 3D Library (aka C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library )
that My daz… can be named & placed where ever, and you can have multiple content folders - you just need to tell daz to look for them.

hope its clear enough - then again, 4.9 may have changed all that, not tried

Thanks Sin, I will try making that work this weekend.

  • Here is a question as I slowly (ever so slowly) try to work my way through DAZ: When installing items in the Smart Content tab, where are the files actually being written to? I mean, on the hard drive itself. Also, can I move that folder to a larger hard drive so I don't kill my C Drive?

  • So does that program allow you to load stuff into Poser while it's running? Because the library is a royal pain in the ass, when it comes to loading content so if I could use that to load stuff instead, that would be awesome.

I use this primarily in Poser http://www.runtimedna.com/Advanced-Figure-Manager-2.html - it is my favorite library manager. I just use Senosoft as a super fast way to browse around.

  • @'gazukull':

http://www.senosoft.com/ - do you use this?

I usually run it in my second monitor, faster than fucking around in my runtime via poser library.

    Also - http://www.runtimedna.com/ShaderWorks-Library-Manager-2.6.html is invaluable.

As for setting up the runtime:

Something like this - with the same corresponding directory structure in pose as well.

In later life I started breaking out runtime by merchant.

Now in DS - the auto installer does a great job of sorting shit correctly in a logical manner.

  • Bought. Seems every time I talk to you I end up buying something. I hope you're getting a commission.

I run everything independent so there's never any clutter on my monitors. Everything's on the taskbar until needed.

I suspect I'll be needing to clear the cache as well, I bought a lot of crap when I was getting into this, took me a while to figure out there was only a handful of vendors that are worth it.

  • @ Nox

The shaderworks library is AMAZING - like conform multiple figures and magnatize them at the same time!

Only bad thing - I do have to clear its cache out in the your user > apps > roaming now and again. Probably because my runtime is obscenely large. But other than its super good.

    http://www.runtimedna.com/Advanced-Figure-Manager-2.html

The above has the super hierarchy manager, you can make multiple objects hidden at the same time - conformers whatever.

Of course this all takes LOTS of monitor realestate. I run 2560 x 1440 (my 2560 x 1600 died) with a second monitor. When my money tree grows back, I am going to get a 4k monitor to fit all this shit… probably the one from monoprice. This shits: http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13809 - got a pretty good review on Toms.

And yeah - within my V4 pile i got it broke into Fantasy / Scifi / Modern :)

    -G

  • Yep, mine is same as gaz but I also sort clothes, props and scenes by period (fantasy, modern, sci-fi) and underwear separately. Works…ok. Not that thrilled about it.

Is Shaderworks really worth it? It does look pretty good...

Also, is there actually anything on the market that can delete something from runtime thoroughly (textures included)?

  • @'Cheetiot':

I'm kind of anal about being organized. I do everything manually, no content management or auto installing, and keep each item backup up in its own folder. So if I need to find where it is in the runtime I just look in the backup and find its folder.

    Yes I'm weird.

You're not weird. It's a sign of an organized mind.
Besides between organizing content and having to search for it and get angry over never being able to find anything, I'd say the first is far less annoying.
I'm a Poser user (sadly not sure for how long though, even with 2016 coming around unless they have support for Genesis 2 at least or at the very least something that can rival it - someone at Renderotica put it best - "Industrial strength software - yesterday's figures" - ) and at first I would dump everything in the main runtime. But I quickly realized what a mess that creates. The way I do it now is each product in its own runtime. So I have something like Characters - Artist name - product name. This means that they are all sorted alphabetically, no matter what because I have other prefixes like animations, poses and expressions, outfits, scenes and props. I've devised a method which allows me to add as many runtimes at once to Poser as I want. The above setup also means that all it takes to remove a product is remove its runtime from Poser, then delete the folder and I know for sure there will be no files left behind. The problem with this setup is that switching between runtimes is a mess because of the way the Poser library does it, and the second is that the search solution that JBTrimar is proposing doesn't really work because of the way Poser is designed (Search only searches files not runtime names, not to mention that it is very slow for me). If it could search as I type the way Windows does I could just type something like "stonema" and see all runtimes that have "Stonemason", in their name, that would be great. I wonder if they'll come up with a better solution for the library in Poser 2016. A combination of my method (one product per runtime) with the way DAZ does it (smart content) would be great.

I use the Search function in Poser. Finds everything I need.

I wish I could say the same. Does it search that metadata that Poser generates?

  • i know your pain, my runtime is a mess as well.
you can take some time to create the metadatas yourself for the older content.

i havent tested them but there are some apps on daz market to sort your things too - not free tho.
