  • @'miro':

… I think the easiest comparison to make is Hollywood movies. CG movies vs real movies, pretty much paints the picture of traditional porn vs 3DX. Can CG movies even today compete, absolutely in fact as long it's decent (big studio) it matches or in most cases surpasses traditional movies of all kinds in box office, if that's what you rate it by.

Completely on your side with this point. There is no doubt that 3DX will be more and more perfect. This comes with the perfection of CG-rendering tools like »V-Ray« (best example your own pictures if I recall right your tool chain) and animation tools for moving pictures. In my opinion the probably best example for »taken closest to real« was shown in »Tron Legacy«. The real star was not the movie, the story, the images (which I liked), the music (which I also liked) … but the computer generated young Jeff Bridges portraying the »Clu« program inside the computer world. That was so very very close to the real thing. An other good example is the »Power Punch« at the end of the 3rd Matrix-movie when Neo hits the face of Agent Smith in pouring rain. This all get's you a glimpse of what's coming in the next ten years. And of course in which direction 3DX will go.

    @'miro':

What does 3DX need to do to become mainstream? Very realistic and aestetic animation, imho.

The question is: Do we really want this? No, really: Do WE really want this? Of course the crowd of people consuming porn will not make any differences between human pron or 3DX if the images are believable. But isn't it also a thrill for all of us to know the images we produce will only come to life with a good part of imagination (with my only special style of pictures and fetish it is even ore true for me)? Beside that's what I call »art« even if we are still talking about porn images.

    As always,
    The Inflater

  • Well I could play it, but only at low-res and its lowest graphics settings (no textures, dynamic hair or lighting), and the framerate really suffered, but I was impressed by the level of control over the characters movements and the near-limitless viewing angles

    @'fredfred5150':

You should check out a game called "Virtual Hottie 2" also available by a different name 3dGirlz4ever, my PC was too slow to play it, but the graphics were pretty good, and it was western style

i'm pretty sure I tried the first version, but wasn't impressed at all

but maybe they've improved with the second version, you couldn't play it u say… might get this on the review list, so we can all see how it is

Yes agree with interaction and games, that's pretty much the final pit stop, before VR and sex bots. But I don't see this coming from Hollywood or any big game studio. Interestingly enough the West seems to have a much higher barrier with regard to porn than Japan in that regard, where such games appear to be much more common.

I would also like to see a game made with a budget on par with AAA games, that would surely blow people's minds. But as I said I think that will have to come from the porn industry and well to me it seems they haven't really been interested in innovation but rather rehashing same old.

Eventually someone will jump on the band wagon though and then it's… game on! :)

  • Hope for the future of 3DX in my opinion is with games. Most of the points I would bring up for 3DX over porn have already been discussed (lack of limitations physically, open to ones imagination etc). But truly as we have seen with social networking and the now dominance of gaming as the premier entertainment industry, is that people like interaction.

Technology to create new fun interactive situations with 3DX characters is the future of erotic entertainment. Granted there have been a lot of smaller projects that fit this description but many of them are just movie based games. Those that are truly interactive are usually small in scale due to production time/costs. Big budget ventures have been lacking so far, but truly the sky is the limit. We just need a studio that has the guts to appeal to various fetishes in market that's already acclimated to a mmo style product.

Not that there is anything wrong with porn, it just has its limits. I enjoy it as much as the next guy, and as art imitates life, I will often browse through some for inspiration or improvement on a position.

But 3DX is definitely on the rise. Even now we can entertain ourselves with scenes that defy nature/reason/reality. Its only a matter of time until 3DX as a whole takes the next step.

I think we've discussed some the pointers already.
Will 3DX become mainstream? Yes! It will take some time yet tho. Hopefully Affect3d can contribute in some way :)

There are two very important key ingredients missing, I won't go into too much detail since they will be apparent in the near future I think. 2012 could be the ice breaker, but if not this year in the couple at the latest I'd say. Then 3DX will become a lot more recognized. Perhaps not mainstream as yet, but a player. From there give it a few years and will hopefully be on the shelves everywhere… not shops tho internet!

Ok I'm going to have to elaborate when I don't have to type on this damn Android.

  • I started a thread along these lines on renderotica about a year ago, I hope no-one minds if I just copy and paste what I wrote because I think everything I wrote there applies to the theme of this thread, I've also been a fan of 3DCG erotica for over 10 years now,

I've been thinking about this for a while and would like to trigger a dicussion about this and all it's aspects and where better to have this conversation than with a bunch of 3d artists and enthusiasts.

If we think of the nature of erotica/porn whatever you call it…isnt the 3d/CGI world the logical destination/creative media for it to end in?

Think about it, I see the current trends in porn as basically 2-fold..

Only use the prettiest women you can find
Indulge in the roughest, nastiest sex that woman will allow

Obviously these 2 things can only be taken so far, in that no supermodel will ever do porn, and the human body can only handle so much

Also there is the guilt-factor, I've seen completely legal stuff and thought to myself "that woman did not sign on for that" at that point eroticism dissappears for me, and I'm not even going to comment on the horrific, non-legal stuff that lurks in the darkest corners of the net.

Which brings me to the world of 3d/CGI a few years ago me and a friend of were watching the "Final Fantasy Spirits Within" movie and we were quite amazed at the life-like quality of the graphics in some parts of that movie, The question quickly arose "would you shag the main female character" and from there it went to "would you watch and accept a 3d/CGI" porn movie as being a valid form of erotica?

The conclusion reached was "Yes, but only if the graphics were of a very high quality"

Now, these days its seems like anyone with the right software and a decent spec computer is capable of producing high quality images at or near photo-realistic level, it doesnt seem to be something that is reserved for hollywood studios with supercomputers.

Also companies are producing genitals to use with 3d modelling software so there must be a demand out there.

So now we pretty much have all the components to make high quality CGI erotica so my question is, why is there not much of it out there?

Think about..all the women can be exactly how you want them to be, they will do pretty much anything you can imagine or program and they can't be harmed by anything so theres no guilt in watching something "outside the box" eg monsters, huge penetrations, etc.

Is it simply because few are dedicated enough to make them, or lack of resources, from what little I know it takes hours/days/months to render this sort of thing, but there are individuals and groups who have done it so what do they have that others don't?

Does anyone out there with more knowledge than me think the technology isnt quite there yet?

Does anyone think 10/20/30/40 years from now you'll be able to walk into an adult movie store and buy a CGI movie along the lines of Zzomps "Tihanna love Taurens" I know I would.

Does anyone think the wider public would never accept CGI now matter how realistic the graphics were? and CGI would remain only a very small Niche market?

Has anything I've written here sparked inspiration in anyones mind?

I'd love to hear anyones intellectual thoughts and opnions on what I've wrote and anyones own ideas on this subject.

    Thanks for reading.. fred

    @'batosan':

I would like to think of 3DCG itself as a well-established art form that has surely seen a huge technological advancement these couple of years. That being said, there's always a future for "3DX" as there is a future for traditional pornographic arts. However, just like traditional arts, 3DCG is itself a discipline that combines technology and art in a very deep package. What I mean is, that it could very well be a higher form of an artform (like drawing for example) but will not always in this case replace it. An incredible drawing of Ayako will appeal more to people than a bad rendering of Ayako (shame!!). With the ever increasing needs and development of this discipline comes the more public consumption of 3DCG. Using movies is an excellent example. If more people are able to see a 3d visualization of Angelina Jolie, that's a bigger crowd, and in that crowd there's got to be a few people who like that! But we're talking about 3DCG pornography, which I sadly think will always be for a niche group, but overall I do agree and hope the spread of 3DCG in itself, will eventually reach a vast group of people, and as a result evolve even more, as will "3DX" too!

I personally disagree with the "will always be a niche group". I think the easiest comparison to make is Hollywood movies. CG movies vs real movies, pretty much paints the picture of traditional porn vs 3DX. Can CG movies even today compete, absolutely in fact as long it's decent (big studio) it matches or in most cases surpasses traditional movies of all kinds in box office, if that's what you rate it by. In terms of content and value, same deal very imaginative, engaging all those things. And more and more really popular movie rely more and more heavily on CG like LotR or that other movie, what's it called … oh yeah Avatar. The question was will it go main stream, absolutely, will surpass it, totally different question.
What does 3DX need to do to become mainstream? Very realistic and aestetic animation, imho.

I like both concepts virtual reality and real dolls, they look pretty damn realistic (cept for the comical ones) but they have to become a little livelier as Tifanny pointed out =) … otherwise the conversation is going to be pretty one-sided, lol.... or maybe it isn't such a bad a idea for the girl to just shut her mouth for once... tap dances away slowly.

    …or open it. ;)

ok now your're talking!! ….. (...get it!? eh? )

  • I think you underestimate how many people wish to have sex with popular/pretty people :D

  • Saw a documentary on that, pretty creepy, I'm for going into a virtual world rather than taking it out to the real world.

  • Virtual reality!

…or they get 3d printed and we get sex androids! ...but that moreso requires good AI than the bodies since they already have those... check it out: http://www.realdoll.com/

oh has blade & sould been released now??? if I had time I'd take her for a spin

I really do like the idea of merging 3DX and gaming, two of the things I love the most, unlocking postions and clothing, etc could be a great feature =)
