  • Alright, another thing I found out; again useful mostly for animation.

    I was messing around with magnets and I accidentaly made an interesting effect.

    With a little animation, I made a ripple effect:

    Basicaly I created a magnet, made the areay of effect a thin ellipsoid and changed the scale within the animation. Also it's good to use weight map so you don't affect "non-soft" parts - the one I am using is actually not perfect, Poser decided to be a bitch and it bugged on me.



  • …Well I can't speak to Poser (looks like I'm going to have to go 11 pro if I'm to use my video card or use an external render) but I do think the current Daz can export in a number of formats. I've also heard Blender can talk to other programs that way...



  • Well off the top of my head:

    You can do 95% of your posing using single tool, it also lets you change the point of origin on the fly. The camera movement scheme is easier to use. You can pose lights by watching through them. You can move multiple bones at once. With the timeline manipulation you can do stuff you simply cannot do in Poser (but to give Poser credit here, with the timeline layers there you can do stuff that is not easy/possible in SFM).

    If I could use the genesis figures in SFM and export the output via octane, that would be the perfect software :D



  • As for the old hardware, well at least I have general idea now what I would be shooting for and the ball park of what I'd realistically expect. So whether or not you intended it, thanks for the info.

    Well, I am aware of the incredible and sometimes disturbing machinima videos made with gmod. That's a sandbox program using the source engine and whatever attributes and resources from whichever Valve games you already own and have installed. So educate me, what does its sister program do better that poser could take pages from?

    You seem to be reacting on lot of old information though, right now I am using Octane and I upgraded to 2x980ti + 980.

    The pictures are also from my "old project", thanks to my new rig I can afford to use some more advanced bells and whistles now.

    I've heard SFM being called a toy before, honestly, this kind of bugs me. SFM is an amazing piece of software and Poser could learn a LOT from it. At first I thought it's just a matter of preference, but posing and animating in SFM is SO much better.

    i have the same CPU. i wouldn't say it's weak, especially if you overclock it. hit ctrl+alt+delete and check your CPU usage. i lowered rendering times by increasing bucket size. been a while though since i picked up poor man's octane (student copy).

    Hm. I have an i5 3570K, and can upgrade to the i7. 32GB total ram space. Thanks for letting me know a rough indication of what I may be able to expect. Plus I have a Corsair H100i, though after horror stories on fluid I think I won't be using this all the time, just use it for blocks of time where I'd be doing CPU renders. As-is right now I'm going to spend the next few months paying off my 980ti, though.

    You know, it's kinda funny. Artists have to put in months (if not years) of work on something, requiring all kinds of software expertise and monotony, just to entertain people for a few short hours!

    On the other hand, it's still totally worth it, so long as the combined number of hours people spend enjoying it, greatly dwarfs the amount of time for one or more persons to make it.

    Your works have attained that distinction and more, so keep it up. We're all eager to see what comes next.

    Rikolo, you're far ahead of me–I'm just a pesky fan for now. :) Keep going with this. You have your foot in the door and you can now help shape and define 3DX for the future. Even just a small bit is good in my eyes.

    Hey, not bad. BTW SFM doesn't rub me the wrong way, personally. Its quality isn't what most of use would ultimately strive for. I think XNALara/XPS and SFM are just kinda toys you can use with some popular characters for a small bit of recognition in the hentai porn world.

    Though 4chan and Hentai Foundry will still scoff at even the best 3D works. But the gamut of hentai porn gallery sites seems to recognize 3D. It's victory on SOME level, so take whatever you can get and play it.

I am working on a new project, but instead of copying my tumblr and patreon (in my sig if you are interested) I thought I would showcase some of the techniques which I think are cool (if it's actually old stuff everyone is using, I apologize :D). To give you an idea of what you are looking at, here are some previes:

    First I'd like to show use of animated textures in Octane. I am sorry about the video, it's kind of small and the webm convert did not help it but I think the effect is clear:

    Focus on the veins. I am using an animated texture and displacement map, the texture looks something like this:

    One thing I noticed though, is that you have to render the entire animation in one guy, otherwise it seems to reset the frames of the texture animation.

  • Alrighty, so I decided to release part of my upcoming project, and to make it more interesting I am gonna put out one picture for each 10% finished (rendered) with the last one being animation. So here is a first one, for first 10%. I actually have rendered about 20% and posed maybe 30-40%, but I'd like to give my Patrons head start, so they will get the picture a bit earlier :)

  • Your pixel samples are too high. I usually get by with setting it at 6 and if I need to do clear DOF, I push it up to 12 or 18.

  • Alright guys, I am trying to render some animations, and honestly I am stuck. The render times are so insane, to the point I am starting to doubt I'll be able to do animations before Octane. Here are my render settings, do you see anything to improve, render speed wise?

    Irradiance caching is so high, because otherwise I get weird ghosting which is really noticeable in animation, IL quality is the lowest possible value before I get different kind of ghosting.

    edit: So, I've decided to split rendering the room and the girls into two parts, I'll keep the room settings as above and for the girls I switched off the irradiance caching and the indirect lights. I got to 8 minutes per frame for the girls! I'll let you know how it looks :)
