The yellow bones are used to fix articulations. They are common bones with Transformation constraints. They interact with the model with low vertex groups (0.25 max). So when the forearm rotate, some bones are moving in a specific direction, to fix the elbow and the biceps, for example.
Like this:
Also, the bones doesn't interact directly with the model, but with the mesh around which is used as mesh deform. This is even easier

Great movement. What are the bones that float outside of the arm?

Thank you
The elbow rig:

Looking good so far!

Thanks to the mesh deform (the mesh around the model), I only have to play with a few vertices to fix the shapes. If that tool did not exist, I don't know if I'd be able to obtain the same result by working directly on the model itself. Though I did great with the hands, which are not animated by the mesh deform.

Wishing you good luck with it, and alot of persistence. Thats what usually made me give up later down the road when trying to rig and fix the shape with Maya
-
Great morph blends and rigging. Looking forward to more of the animations.

Great job! Keep it going!
