    Damn. Sounds to me like you're outDAZ-ing DAZ, at least the way you're putting it. I mean they still provide backwards compatibility. Let's say I can understand dropping V4, after all you're working within the limitations it imposes so yeah it's like trying to work with a straitjacket on, but no compatibility for old textures and face morphs sucks. Especially since there is now a converter for V4 textures to Genesis 3.

    For the original release I've decided not to include a shred of DAZ (incl V4) because people were getting too freaked / hung up on it.   • I think one problem with shaders is that they take an insane amount of time to render. I applied a silver shader to just two objects in my scene and it took ages to render them in Poser. Plus shaders differ from one rendering engine to the next, don't they? Reality can't read Poser shaders, which are different from DAZ Studio shaders anyway.



  • Sadly there's no easy answer to texture maps. UVs are great for technical things like machinery, but I've never liked them for human figures, simply because of the seams.

    Perhaps you might explore a shader-based texture option instead of UV mapping? I've done very little with that on my own (because despite the troubles with UV maps, they're quick and easy and plentiful), but theoretically should provide a higher level of customization, particularly with regards to making several characters who don't all have the exact same mole in the exact same place.

    You might need a UV-based bump map though, but for skin tones I'd think shaders would work best.

    However, from what little I have used them, they tend to come out a bit uniform, with no realistic variation along a given area of the body. The only work-around I can see (for Poser at least) is using the Grouping Tool to create polygon groups and applying shaders to each group manually. That, obviously, would mean an exponential increase in figure/scene setup time, however.

    But then again, that's all based on my limited experience/working knowledge of the shader trees.

    Poser. Yeah, once I remove the leg morphs, V4 defaults to the base genital morph. I use the Lali Bits on my Cassidy OC now, so I only have to turn off the leg morphs in extreme positions when they interfere with other morphs. No worries, though. I am used to it by now ;-)

    my PE as it works now, can wear V4 stuff straight out of the library. You do need to update the Weight Mapping, but that's easy.

    Yeah when PE hits the stores everything will be separate so you can choose what you want to have going in your character. I kindof just dumped EVERYTHING in Lali's Bits because the INJ system was horrible to work with. I'm working on making this easier for myself with PE.

    Yeah that's definitely true, also for myself when I cannot be arsed to convert textures. I do hope I can entice people to move away from V4/V6 UV maps though, because they're truly crap! seams everywhere!

  • April 2015 - I have decided that Project E will have her own maps. I've given up trying to make it work with V4 and V6 maps. It is way too much work and a waste of time. DAZ's UV maps are crap, have seams all over the place, and thus terrible to work with too. It is also pointless for me since I make my own textures anyway. I have other stuff I'd rather be spending time on. My (your) only hope is that someone makes a texture converter for Project E, otherwise you'll have to learn how to make your own textures. You can convert V4 textures to PE using Maya or zBrush. Off course, I'll probably supply PE with some standard textures to get going, and who knows maybe some vendors will help out and make some extra textures!

    When PE comes out it will be mostly to cater for those artists that need a detailed female 3D figure in their scene, and/or those artists that are capable of making their own textures (and morphs). Sorry for this change in attitude but I need to get on with it and make comics.
