  • I think crowdfunding is great and allows independent developers or individuals to get the sort of funding they need to get a product out to the people (if it's an idea the people like) that they otherwise never would have been able to. So, it's good for everyone involved.

  • I think it's excellent.

On the one hand: It connects producers, artists, and anyone with a concept/product directly with the people who would most desire their works. A great avenue.

On the other hand: it's great for making direct connections with consumers' buying power to be able to vote with their dollars for specifically what they want. It also exposes consumers to lots of neat new stuff.

It just works. Sure it has risks–so do patented ideas. It is what people make of it which makes it all the better.

  • @'bhroom':

I really dig offbeatr. Which I think has an affect3D market, but no actual projects … right?

There have also been some really great projects coming out of the site, but it doesn't seem to have the financial pull yet.

I hope it still gains momentum. I think this coupled with Patreon could allow artists to work steadily enough to gather resources and begin working on a larger project in a more professional sense.

I did this with a successful kickstarter project, and am now in my field full time. 3DX and other porn is obviously a lot harder!

I think offbeatr just needs that killer project to get notoriety!

Patreon killed offbeatr's momentum. There used to be a lot more art projects on offbeatr as they were the only X-rated crowdfunding site at the time, but ever since Patreon rose to prominence, many artists and developers (both 2D and 3D) moved there. And it's easy to see why with the monthly payments and the lack of a voting system.

I did this with a personal kickstarter project, and am now in my field full time. 3DX and other porn is obviously a lot harder!

  • I figure that it's a good way to get artists the support they need. We live in an age of piracy, and the only thing that can overcome piracy, or at least compensate for it, is goodwill. The consumer has to feel a certain affinity for the content they enjoy, and have to have a certain appreciation for its creator if you want to get them to shell out. If you're doing this to make a living, or at least add to your living, then crowdfunding in the source of Patreon is in my opinion not a bad way to go at all.
