  • @'EctoRider':

    Thanks, I'll have a look at imgur and keep your hints in mind.

    If you use imgur, make sure to mark your gallery default as hidden, so they don't appear publicly without a link.

  • Thanks, I'll have a look at imgur and keep your hints in mind.

  • Don't submit your images publicly if you use imgur, keep them out of the user submitted gallery.

  • Try imgur then. Their TOS doesn't say porn (outside of CP) isn't allowed. Make an account to keep all your pics on one place. https://imgur.com/

  • Update: Supro, you just got anti-vrus-warnings when accessing my first image uploaded to imgbox, right? As said in the DLC thread I did not notice anything bad (which may be even more sinister :-/ ). It could also be because NoScript plugin disabled most active content for me. Or maybe imgbox just showed a different content for me as uploader.

    I did not do anything special. Just uploaded it and honestly selected "Adult content" from the dropdown menu. Maybe they take that as carte blanche to associate the image page with "dubious stuff"? I don't know.

    Anyway, thanks for the warning. I'll rethink my strategy.

    I am still not sure about minus.com due to that Terms of Service:

    [...]
    The following types of files constitute "abuse" and may not be uploaded under any circumstances, when using Minus Inc's services:

        Files that violate any law or may be considered to violate any law.
        Files that infringe on the copyrights of any entity excluding the user.
        Non-image files. This includes archived non-image files.
        Adult content and pornography.
        Gore or "shock" images that are that are intended to be offensive, disgusting and/or disturbing to viewers.

    Uploading abusive files may result in the immediate termination of the user's ability to use Minus Inc or any of its provided services. The Minus Inc website may not load, all Minus Inc-hosted files may not load, and all files related to the abusive files will be subject to deletion. Circumventing Minus Inc's ability to enforce the Minus Inc Terms of Service will result in prosecution.
    [...]

    ```You never had problems with that? Or is it rather: No plaintiff, no judge?
  • Ok, thanks, that explains it.
    Would it still be possible to allow attachments to posts in threads other people opened , for ordinary users (as said: gladly combined with size restrictions, but it would still ease central administration of attachments) or would that require major modifications at the forum and/or be not welcome?
    It's not a big problem if not. Otherwise I'll probably use imgbox or maybe that workaround of an attachment-repository thread. I doubt it will be many images, anyway.
  • @'EctoRider':
    Regarding external hosters: I just tried imgbox (with a test image) for the first time; that seems indeed fine concerning their adult policy and ease of use. (Regarding minus.com better be careful, their terms of service (see http://minus.com/pages/tos ) say that they forbid porn.)
    I'd still prefer to keep the images – at least those used to comment stuff created/sold here -- at affect3d. Maybe Supro can still say something about the behaviour of this attachment widget. Is that really intended? ( I can't see why that would be beneficial. Limiting file size and having limited space per user -- goes without saying. But why is it available only in own threads?)
    I find it quite strange. In my user control panel, I also have a "Manage Attachments" option, but it just allows to delete them centrally, not upload.
    Sure, I could think of a workaround: Open a new thread, meant only as a kind of "attachment-anchor" and then link from other posts to those attachments. But that seems rather odd to me...
    Well, it could be that it's blocked for non-administrative members as we designed those forums to only have threads created by the staff.
    You can probably use minus if you create a gallery and mark it as private in the options. The links can still be viewed as long as you have the link.
  • Yes, it's fine. You could also use Minus.com or various other image hosts that allow adult images.
  • Thanks both of you.
    Concerning imgbox: Would uploading a picture mainly comprising material from affect3d to imgbox be permitted?? Supro, you don't have to answer if this a grey-area and maybe just tolerated – I just don't want to violate your copyrights and carelessly spreading images that were just meant to illustrate certain points in the discussion (or be funny) ...
    Concerning affect3d's built-in attachment upload: I still don't get it... :huh: I definitely can upload images in this thread, but the same attachment upload widget does not appear when I reply in the G4E DLC thread – just compare the screenshots attached ;). I may be blind, or is something buggy here?
  • @'EctoRider':
    PPS: OK, not so dumb: I learned that I can upload images up to 500 KB as thread opener, but how when I am just posting a reply??
    Click New Reply at the top/bottom of a thread or at the bottom of a post you're replying to. The attachments option should be included.
