  • I think the relative "right or wrong" of pornography is in the eye of the beholder, and whether the individual can distinguish fantasy from reality, and more importantly keep fantasy and reality separate

    porn=fantasy
reality=what you and your gf or bf are willing to do for each other

I like obscenity as much as everyone else, but theres a difference between what I'll watch and what I'll do

Let's be clear about this porn may be obscene which is half… if not all the fun .... BUT!! that doesn't make it in any shape or form wrong and least of all a criminal offence.

I think I've said this before people are too easily offended, which is fine, but for heavens sake don't ask the government to play along with your childish insecurities.

  • @'dizzydills':

As for misogyny, and the degradation of morals in the united states, your better off attacking the current state of media. On public stations there are many shows that push sex/violence/misogyny/ greed down the throats of their viewers. All under the pretense of entertainment. It can be difficult to find "clean" tv shows after dinner to watch with the family due to this content. The looks and behavior of women on these shows are far more harmful to society than actresses in porn, because their behavior is accepted socially (more or less). Where as porn stars are on the fringes of society, and generally there behavior is considered obscene or taboo. I remember when Bart saying "bitch" was a huge deal on the Simpsons. Now shows can get away with a lot more.

Yep, the "socially accepted behaviour" in mainstream media and in particular the role models that are presented to young girls and women are terrible, I hate to see what its doing to the younger generation, especially advertising and music videos

  • I disagree with Santorum's statements entirely. Pornography is a form of entertainment, which is legally restricted to adults. If you have a problem with children accessing this content, start fining/punishing the parents.

If porn ruins your marriage/relationship, chances are you had bigger problems to begin with. Clearly the porn watcher was not being satified sexually (or has addiction issues), and not being satisfied is going to have a huge impact on the health of a relationship. That's of course not including people who are not in a relationship thus porn not having a negative impact there.

Porn is fantasy, if the viewer cannot draw the line between fantasy and reality, then they shouldn't be watching (nor should they be allowed to roam free in society). I like action movies, does that mean I am more prone taking my shirt off and firing large caliber weapons at "bad guys"? No, obviously that's ridiculous, nor would I push the things I see in porn on my partner in a relationship.

The good news is that the porn industry is massive here in the states with a fair amount of pull. Look up the adoption of dvd and blu-ray formats if you want to see how much weight porn has behind it. Porn is billion dollar, regulated and taxed business. Doing away with that in time where the US is going further into debt every second, joblessness being at an all time high, would be stupid to say the least. Outlawing porn would push the industry underground where they would most likely see greater profits and far less regulation.

If politicians with that kind of rhetoric can gain votes, it's a bad state of affairs indeed!
The sad fact is, they do. In the USA and virtually every other country in the world.
Porn is corrupting people's minds? Wow, they're really run out of ideas in their latest campaign, let's beat the dead horse for a bit :) Then again they wouldn't do it if people weren't so gullible… the anti porn agenda is always good for a few "save the children" votes.

Perhaps they should eliminate corruption from politics before they go out spoiling everyone's fun, I wonder which has more of an impact on the economy? ;)

  • You guys got some serious issues in americaland :) Banning porn but keeping violence on prime time tv probably. I wouldnt mind what he said there as much though since those things usually get spouted around to appeal to certain groups of people. He probably had a low rating for all the hardcore cough christians and conservative moral apostles which there are quite a big number off if I heard right.

  • I can see his point. Though "It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking." sounds like a long shot to me.
And what the hell is "illegal obscene pornography"?

  • I dont think we need to worry, although I think he's kinda right (american porn is pretty morally corrosive),

Mitt-Obama is a snob because of his Harvard Degree even though I have 2 Harvard Degrees-Romney will win the Republican nomination, Santorum will go back to relative obscurity.

As for petrol prices…you guys have it good compared to a lot of other nations,

  • Don't feel bad friend, at least we're an open minded forum. Politics isn't my cup of tea. But as far as that topic goes, it seems like a bunch of movers and shakers going totally nowhere. Or like a dog show, where everything to has to be the same, or they cry foul.

Santorum vs alternative media = its his script writers' opinion. But his own? Can't really say, he's a puppet with someone's hand pulling his strings.

  • no doubt, and the part that really made me laugh was right at the beginning saying "America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography," Santorum's official website reads. "Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking."

so what about that pandemic harm of prices at the pumps or this nations outrageous amount of debt and high unemployment or soldiers dying every day in an extremely unpopular war. but that porn is just bringing us down right? lol. i know i shouldn't have even read into that dumb article.

  • That's stupid. If someone doesn't like porn, you don't outright ban it. You just avoid looking at it. I'm sorry, but Santorum is just off the grid with his dumbass ideas. And there's plenty of them.
