  • I found the answer to my question in another thread that matthacker commented on.

    Question:
    @PhatEne:

    How do you get Victoria 4 as a UV Set option for Genesis 2 Female?

    Answer:
    @matthacker:

    Genesis have compatibility with Generation 4 figures textures (that would be V4 and M4) out of the box while Genesis2Female require an additional item for that.

  • First post and I'm necroing a thread while asking a noob question. :blush:

    @matthacker:

    …but Genesis and Genesis 2 have Generation 4 UV map support so you can load textures for Generation 4, use the appropriate UVs (for example, Victoria 4 rather than the Base Female or Victoria 5/6 UV map)...

    How do you get Victoria 4 as a UV Set option for Genesis 2 Female?

    I'm not seeing it as an option. I do on Genesis however. Is Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female the only way to do this? Well, outside of manually creating a UV Set…

  • 1. UV maps are texture layouts that 'tells' the renderer where to place the textures on the model.
    2. This is generally correct. However, textures are usually built with one UV maps in mind. Loading a different UV set other that the intended will cause distortions. Genesis, Genesis 2 and Generation 4 all have different mesh, but Genesis and Genesis 2 have Generation 4 UV map support so you can load textures for Generation 4, use the appropriate UVs (for example, Victoria 4 rather than the Base Female or Victoria 5/6 UV map) and avoid distortions.
    3. Yes. You can use both texture on any V4, Genesis and Genesis 2 Female with the V4 UVs.

    FYI, you can select UV sets from the 'Surfaces' pane/tab. Just select all surfaces of a figure (or the ones you use V4's textures and find the UV Set drop down box.

  • So if I understand what you're saying the following is correct?

    1. UV maps "tell" the texture what shape to conform to.

    2. UV maps are specific to the figure being used (genesis, victoria versions, stephanie, micheal) not any specific morph package for that figure

    3 Hypothetically the texture for this http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/vh-onna-for-victoria-4-2/83879 should also fit this http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/mrl-faryn/100829/ with no kind of adjustment neccessary?

  • For Generation 4, all textures made for V4 will work fine on other shapes (Stephanie, Girl, Aiko, SheFreak etc) and vice versa. Ditto for the male - M4 textures will work with Freak 4, Hiro 4. You can also use M4 textures on V4 (and vice versa) if you manually load the respective UV layout.

    Genesis pretty much come supporting all recent UV layouts, except for Generation 6 shapes (Victoria, Girl, Gia 6). There's a problem with V4 UVs though - a product is available that corrects the UV layout for Genesis.

    SInce Genesis 2 brought back the gender split, you can only use female shape UV sets (Base Female, Victoria 4, Victoria 5, Victoria 6, Gia 6 and Girl 6) with Genesis 2 Female so you're limited to textures for those figures.

    Easiest way to tell is see the product description. Most textures supporting Gen4 and Genesis usually has V4 UVs. Those who don't explicitly mention V4 will likely use Genesis Base UVs or one of the Gen5 shapes. There are several sets that only ship with Genesis 2 Female / Generation 6 support.

    Btw, DAZ is having a clearance sale of V4/V3 characters/textures.
